We here at Webtrends Design Lab are back at it, answering our own challenge to make 2012 the year of the live-data infographic. Last time it was the Grammys (thanks, Mashable!), this time it’s the Academy Awards (a.k.a. ‘The Oscars’, a.k.a. ‘the one where the speeches are way too long’). Our war on stale, static infographics continues!
Following our success with the Grammys, we set our sights on the Oscars. Using the Movie Poster Database for imagery, Twitter conversation data, and the lessons we learned from the Grammys Data Viz, we created The Unofficial Oscars Tweet Ballot.
Inspired by ballots given to the Academy members, we once again visualized the Oscar twitter data in a way that was fun and engaging. So far, we’ve collected, analyzed and visualized more than 1 million tweets on all of the biggies for the Oscars, like Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Director.
Currently, in the category of Best Picture, leading the pack heading into the show is, not surprisingly, “The Artist”, the silent film fave that most critics think is the hottest pick for Best Picture.
While we’re not in the prediction business, we do visualize data and, as a result, provide marketers and analysts with key insights to draw their own conclusions based upon that data.
And so, without further ado, the envelope please for other buzz leaders heading into the show as of Sunday, February 26th, at 3:00 pm Pacific time:
Best Actor: George Clooney for “The Descendants”
Best Actress: Meryl Streep for “The Iron Lady”
Best Director: Martin Scorcese for “Hugo”
So, everybody, grab your popcorn and enjoy the show! Be sure to tweet your personal favorites and don’t forget to continue to track the buzz as it evolves on our live Unofficial Oscars Tweet Ballot right here. We’ll keep analyzing through the show.
