Running a Facebook sweepstakes doesn’t have to be a hassle. A Webtrends client that is a major athletic retailer is using Webtrends Social applications to do it . Our easy-to-use software lets a single staffer create and manage the whole process, while staying in line with existing company templates and brand standards.

The athletic retailer has more than 600 stores in malls across the U.S. It runs sweepstakes on its Facebook page for brand partners, including shoes that are completely new to the market. But the company needed to create contests without stealing time from its in-house design team–letting them focus instead on their main commerce site.

The retailer looked at  a variety of external software vendors to run its sweepstakes, but templates seemed too strict and required a lot of design help. Many vendors were way overpriced for the job. Paying $5,000 for an application to give away less than $500 worth of merchandise made no sense.

Enter Webtrends. The retailer decided to use Webtrends’ Sweepstakes application to design its first giveaway of 50 pairs of shoes. The company promoted the giveaway to visitors on its website, corporate blog and to email subscribers.

Creative centered on a “hero shot” featuring the shoe against a client-designed background. The company placed text on the page itself using the Webtrends program–no additional graphic design help required.

The retailer ran the campaign for a month, promoting it through email and website home page. In one month, nearly 10,000 people entered the contest and 3,593 users shared the sweepstakes info on their own Facebook pages –all for a chance to win a small partner brand’s shoes.

Now the company uses metrics from the sweepstakes to improve its budgeting. Since it knows roughly how many people will enter a given contest, it makes better decisions about how much time and money to put into them.

The contests fit into the company’s ongoing marketing plans. It is using product giveaways for seeding–an opportunity to get products out in front of fans. It gives them something to talk about and promote, and gives users the chance to engage with the retailer through status updates.

Next up, this company plans to use Webtrends for photo upload and caption contests.
